Renfrewshire Council

Choose Life

In 2002 Choose Life was launched- a ten-year national strategy and action plan from the Scottish Executive to prevent suicide in Scotland. The target was to reduce the rate of suicide by 20% by 2013

NHS Health Scotland leads the implementation of key aspects of the suicide prevention strategy through the national programme for suicide prevention in Scotland.

A nominated contact in each of Scotland's 32 local authority areas has a key role in implementing the local suicide prevention action plan. These are monitored by the local community planning partnership and are focused on developing a wide range of services and practical support, raising awareness, undertaking more research to improve knowledge about suicide prevention and providing training.

The suicide prevention team in Renfrewshire consists of a coordinator and a young person's resource worker employed by Renfrewshire Council Social Work Department.
